Meta UX Research

From 2017 to 2023, I worked closely with the UX Research team at Meta to produce illustrations and graphics for their public-facing research blog and internal communications. The illustrations included characters and visual metaphors to communicate complex ideas around Meta’s research practices. Other graphics included printed posters, presentation designs, booklets, website icons, and office murals.

I produced a ton of illustrations for the Meta UX Research team, and I want share as much as possible. Here’s a list of what I produced. You can jump to each section with the links below:

In 2023, Meta made a company-wide decision to centralize their design standards, terminating all contracts with third-party creative services. I’m grateful for the experience and the connections I made along the way.

New Product Experiment Pathfinding

I worked with the New Product Experiment team to create a presentation that outlined the process by which they determine needs for new products within existing research. The process is called pathfinding, and this presentation was used to onboard new team members and pitch new developments to stakeholders.

This is a segment of the presentation that shows how I organized the information and interpreted the ideas into simple visuals.

The Nigerian Learner

The Meta UX Research team partnered with a Nigerian research team to discover the needs and pain points for online teachers and learners in Nigeria. I took the plain text research findings and organized them into a 50-page presentation with clear chapters of information and engaging illustrations.

This document was shared internally with researchers, developers, and stakeholders.

Ads & Business Platform Vision Statement

The Ads & Business Platform team approached me to create an illustrated presentation of their vision statement. This would be used to onboard new team members and inform stakeholders of the ABP’s standards and methods.

Poster Design

A researcher on the Commerce team asked for my help in presenting her findings on “trust” in Meta’s commerce platforms. I created a series of posters that summarized the research results, including the main takeaway and other qualifiers.

Research Bites

The UX Research team created a weekly thread on their internal messaging board titled “Research Bites”. Each bite was a quick case study or a helpful research tip with an engaging illustration. The team could learn, discuss, and reference back to each bite.

Wiki Link Icons

Illustrated icons for Meta’s UX Research Wiki page. This was their database for research tools and references. The icons helped navigate the dense catalogue.
